Shivajinagar: one of the oldest areas in Bangalore

Shivajinagar is named after the Great Maratha King Shivajiraje Bhosale.  This is one of the oldest areas of Bangalore and a commercial hub. The greatness of this commercial hub is that people from all religions and all languages blend together and live life harmoniously. The Santhanam sweets in Narayana Pillai Road is quite popular among residents of this area.

 

 

 

 

 

Shivajinagar has the Bowring and Curzon hospital, CSI hospital, Ghosha hospital, Shifaa hospital, Santhosh hospital, Lakeside hospital, Jain hospital in its vicinity. One of the famous landmarks of Shivajinagar is Russel Market which was built by the British in the year 1927.A fire broke out in Russel Market early morning of February 25, 2012, which gutted almost one-fourth of the market. Shivajinagar was a barren region when Kempegowda founded modern Bangalore. It is also Known as 'Blackpally'.
