A land line telephone connection that is given by Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The application and billing of this can be used as an address proof for numerous documents. It enables one to also make local, STD and ISD calls at cheap rates.

There are two types of BSNL landline connections it is important to decide which one to apply for:

• - Permanent Connections:

Permanent connections are available in the following eight categories to suit different subscribers,

• - Casual Connections :

Casual connections are provided to applicants for social/religious functions, marriages, and exhibitions etc., for a period not exceeding 30 days

Process flow (with ideal number of days indicated for each process)

1. The standard application form prescribed for a new telephone connection can be obtained free of cost from any of the designated offices of the BSNL or the Customer Service Centres located anywhere in the country. Photocopies of these forms as well as downloaded copies are also accepted.
2. The completed application along with the Demand Draft may be given by hand in the office of the GM/TDM/TDE/SDE for registration. 
3. The completed Application Form may also be sent by registered post along with a Demand Draft for the requisite amount towards a Registration Fee drawn in the name of the designated authority, in the office of GM/ TDM / TDE /SDE under whose jurisdiction the telephone connection is required.
4. In areas where a telephone is available 'on demand' the form for New Telephone Connection (NTC) may be deposited without a Demand Draft.  In such cases, after the receipt of a form for NTC, a Demand Note for the payment of applicable installation charges shall be issued.  On receipt of the payment against the Demand Note, the OB for the installation of a telephone connection shall be issued immediately.
5. A Bona-fide Verification for a new connection/shift of telephone connection is done by the Department before a new telephone connection is sanctioned or an existing phone is shifted to a new address.
