How to check/complain against noise pollution in your neighbourhood

February 02, 2012

Any person troubled by noise pollution of any kind, loud music or industrial noise, can now register complaints over phone or in writing with the police station within the respective jurisdiction. Immediate action will be initiated against the offenders.

Process

  • 1. First find out if the noise qualifies as a violation since each municipality has different guidelines on what is considered a noise violation.
  • 2. Go to the respective police department to file the complaint. Ask them to give you the concerned forms to file this complaint.
  • 3. Provide the source of the noise, the person responsible and what time of day the noise occurs. The department is going to use this information to investigate the matter.
  • 4. Following your complaint the police department will investigate the matter and keep you updated on the outcome. Your complaint will be taken in as anonymous and your identity will not be revealed.
  • 5. Contact the police department again if the noise continues. The police can then send the matter to the courts. The person is likely to face a fine for noise violations.
