On Saturday, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had begun the drive at three places — Avani Sringeri Nagar in Bommanahalli, Kasavanahalli in Mahadevapura and Shivanahalli in Yelahanka. While officials had razed three buildings to the ground in Avani Sringeri Nagar on Saturday, they demolished six more structures on Sunday.
In Kasavanahalli, posh villas worth crores of rupees turned into rubbles right before their owners.The ongoing demolition drive by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which is among the biggest in the recent years, has raised several questions on the functioning of civic agencies or the lack of it.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said there was no question of stopping the BBMP’s ongoing drive to demolish structures on storm water drains. “The properties of builders and developers — however influential they might be — which have come up on lakebeds and stormwater drains, will not be spared. The government will not succumb to any sort of pressure,” said Siddaramaiah.
The BBMP is determined to see the demolition drive through, but is wary of divulging details of buildings and layouts that will be razed on Tuesday. Officials fear that property owners may approach courts and seek an injunction order.
