Active citizen Anita Ramesh ensures dilapidated Doddakatappa Street in Halasuru Gets a facelift
November 27, 2019• By Sandhya C D'Souza
Making a positive impact is easy. All it takes is a little effort. Anita Ramesh is a perfect example, who proves civic issues can be resolved through active civic participation.
The 1st cross, Doddakatappa Street in Halasuru was in a dilapidated condition. The road was dug up to lay down pipelines but not asphalted thereafter. As a result, the tiny stretch became a nightmare for the residents of the locality.
During rains, the road turned into a slush-field. Otherwise, the muddy stretch created clouds of dust.
Anita, a resident of the area, waited for almost a month hoping that BBMP would get the stretch asphalted. However, when the progress seemed to have come to a complete standstill, she posted a complaint on I Change My City.
“I have used the I Change My City platform earlier, to get civic issues resolved. Hence, I clicked a picture and decided to highlight the condition of the Doddakatappa cross road on the platform, hoping the condition of the stretch and the challenges faced by the residents will be noticed by the BBMP,” Anita tells Team I Change My City.
She further adds that since the road was dug in August 2019, people living on the stretch were having a tough time. The elderly found it extremely challenging to walk on the unpaved stretch and even motorists avoided using the cross road.
Soon after Anita posted the complaint on I Change My City on September 22, 2019, Team I Change My City forwarded the complaint to BBMP Assistant Engineer Praveen. Soon after, BBMP workers leveled the road with a bed of gravel. A couple of weeks later, the road was asphalted, and now it is as good as new.
Anita is elated that her effort benefited her neighbourhood. She has shared before and after pictures of the road to confirm the resolution and has also marked her complaint as resolved.
Like Anita, you too can make a difference. Be it a pothole, a dilapidated road, a non-functioning streetlight or a garbage dump; raise the civic issue that affects you and your neighbourhood on I Change My City. If each of us owns up one civic grievance, we can make the city free of all its woes.
