Vidhana Soudha: An icon of Karnataka’s power, pride

Year.1956
  • The then Prime Minister Sri Pandit Jawaharalal Nehru laid the foundation for this magnificent building on 13th July 1951. The construction was completed in the year 1956.

  • A metro station near Vidhana Soudha under the Purple Line of the Namma Metro may come up soon, as the work is taking place in full swing.

  • A sightseeing tour of Bengaluru is incomplete without a visit to the Vidhana Soudha.

  • The building rises to a height of almost 46 m, making it one of the most imposing structures in the city of Bengaluru.

  • The chief engineer of Vidhana Soudha, B.R. Manickam mainly made use of granite to get the edifice constructed.

  • The cost of construction at that time was just 17.5 million rupees. But presently, annual maintenance cost itself is more than 20 million rupees.

  • The three hundred rooms of Vidhana Soudha accommodates approximately twenty-two departments of the state government.

  • Though this monument is the pride of Bengaluru, it is disheartening to see that people dump garbage in front of it.

  • Vidhana Soud

This imposing edifice built almost entirely of dressed Bengaluru granite is a tribute to temple architecture. Housing the Legislative Chambers of the state government, this 46 metre high seat of the government is Bengaluru's best known landmark.
