The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike elections that concluded with the counting of votes on August 25 saw BJP retaining the council by winning 100 seats. Congress with 76 seats followed second, while JD(S) and others scored 14 and eight seats respectively. 

As the new crop of corporators are all set to take oath and govern the city for the next five years, Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, based on the affidavits submitted by the current Corporators have tabulated their assets. The report, while calculating the assets of the corporator took into account the amount of gold and silver, land, cars, among other possessions owned by the corporators.  The final net worth has been calculated as Total Declared Assets minus Total Loans. 

The richest Corporator: 

CR Lakshminarayan, Independent candidate from Domlur Ward with assets worth approximately Rs 119 crore, leads the list of richest corporators followed by  BJP’s K Narayana Raju from Bilekhalli with assets worth Rs 109 crore.  Congress’s Chethan KM from Kodigehalli and P V Manjunath from Byatarayanapura, and BJP’s V Balakrishna from Yelchenahalli with assets worth Rs 72 crore, Rs 47 crore and Rs 38 crore respectively, are among the richer corporators.  

The two richest corporators have a net worth in excess of Rs. 100 Crores. 

On the other hand, Congress’s T Ramachandra from Ejipura with a declared net worth of less than Rs. 1 lakh finds himself at the bottom of the rich list. 

The 198 elected corporators are together worth Rs. 1,228.63 Cr which works out to an average of Rs. 6.2 Cr per corporator.
